Interpreting Inferential and Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics are useful for describing characteristics. Typically, both qualitative and quantitative use descriptive statistics to tell about the sample characteristics. Qualitative research does not use statistics to describe the findings that is one of the major differences between qualitative and quantitative.
Quantitative researchers use descriptive statistics to not only report about the sample characteristics but sometimes use them to report their findings. This is done in lower-level designs only. More often inferential statistics are used. What is meant by inferential statistics? Why are these used? What role does the p value play? What does significance mean?
Inferential statistics do allow for generalizability and predictions. What types of inferential statistics did you see in the studies that you have read thus far? What was the level of data associated with these studies?

Interpreting Descriptive Statistics
Inferential statistics are used when there is a need to compare and contrast different treatment groups. Generalizations are drawn for representative populations after using inferential statistics. The p-value, rather than rejection points, is used to determine the minor significance level at which the null hypothesis is rejected. A lower p-value indicates that the alternative hypothesis has more evidence supporting it. Statistical significance is a tool that may be used to determine whether a result is likely attributable to chance or a factor of interest. Statistical significance relates to whether or not any differences detected between groups under investigation are genuine or just coincidental.
I have seen numerous forms of inferential statistics from the papers I have studied so far. Bivariate Regression Analysis is the most popular, and it entails examini...
