Introduction
Infectious illnesses come with tough challenges to mitigate, treat and get them under control. It is important to note that bringing infectious illnesses under control entails effective decision-making cooperation between the government, agencies, and healthcare facilities. HIV/AIDS Is an infectious disease prevalent in the United States. Currently, the country has approximately 1.2 million people with AIDS, but 13% are unaware of their status. Over the past three decades, the nation has tried controlling the illness, but it still remains a challenge. This essay will discuss more about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and the government's efforts and plans to mitigate its spread.
A brief description of the chosen infectious disease and reasons for choosing the disease.
HIV, which is referred to as human immunodeficiency virus, is a virus that attacks the immune system of the human body. If this virus is not treated, it results in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AID). HIV is transmitted through anal and vagina sex, sharing of syringes, needles, or sharp tools, blood transfusion, and mother-to-child birth. Currently, specialists have not found any cure for HIV/AIDS. This means that once an individual gets infected, one will have to live with it forever. However, with people's care, medical care, and diet, HIV/AIDS can be controlled, and victims can live a normal and healthy life. Even though people are in the 21st century, there are numerous myths about this illness. Further stigmatization still exists in society. Despite the government's efforts to control the spread of AID, numbers are still rising (Williams & Thompson, 2022). At the same time, people do not want to get tested due to fear of being stigmatized by others. These are some of the reasons why I have selected this illness because controlling its spread remains a challenge for the United States.

To reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS, the American government introduced a three-drug anti-HIV treatment that entails antiretroviral DRUGS. At the same time, the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Global Health Diplomacy was created to manage and oversee emergency plans of the President for AIDS Relief (PERFAR). Through this approach, the government has invested over $100 billion in global HIV/AIDS mitigation efforts (Williams & Thompson, 2022). As a result, America has prevented millions of infections and controlled the spread of the illness in more than 50 nations globally. It is also important to note that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) uses technology and science to support sustainable and cost-effective integrated HIV/AIDS interventions.
