God, Humanity, and Human Dignity
Christian traditions play a vital role in the formation of the longest human dignity tradition. Faith traditions of Christian beliefs support and maintain human insights and values. The concept applies to human dignity and rights. Christianity provides narratives that support and give a justification of human dignity and rights. Aspects of Christian dignity concerning humanity and human dignity dramatically contribute to the broad discussion about religion and human dignity. We attest that God gave humankind the authority and feelings for embracing humanity and dignity through Christian worldviews. Based on the case study: Fetal Abnormality, we get a more comprehensive understanding of the role of Christianity and religion in nursing practice. Various moral status theories apply in the case due to their relation to intrinsic human value and dignity. The paper examines the Fetal Abnormality case study and the application of various theories to the case while relating to human dignity and values.
Christian Views on the Nature of Human Persons
Christians describe human beings as God’s portrait or use the word Imago Dei, which relates to the latter. The concept originates from God’s creation of human beings in His own image through their characteristics and not physical appearance (Müller, 2020). This makes Christians believe that human beings should be accorded the best treatment and respect because they are God’s creation. Psalmists strongly believe that there is a close relationship between God and human beings, which is unique and more critical (Stefon, n.d.). The interpretation of human nature also comes from the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ comes to the world as the human manifestation of God, the creator, thus revealing humanity’s worth to God. God cares for human beings, a good reason why He sent Jesus Christ to save humankind from sin.
In this context, the Christian views about human nature are compatible with human properties and relationships theory. An individual is an object of relationships, thus implying that even other people have a relation with the individual as a being who bears moral status (Stefon, n.d.). God creating human beings in His image and sending his Son to save humankind from sin implies that Christians have a strong relationship with God. From this perspective, Christians believe that human beings deserve human dignity. Being made in God’s image indicates that all people have value and dignity (Müller, 2020). The belief that God created us and gave humankind salvation through Jesus Christ is the main reason why Christians value the relationship with God.
Theories used to Determine Moral Status of the Fetus
Readings suggest that Jessica has a moral position that is based on her human attributes and moral agency. There is no indication given to us, the readers, that Maria is a Christian. Readers do learn, though, that she holds a strong belief in the sanctity of all human live...
