There is a need to identify risks of hypertension as the condition is associated with increased mortality and morbidity as well as cardiovascular diseases. Even though, drug therapy is suggested as one of the interventions to reduce risk of hypertension, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is potentially beneficial to reducing complications of high blood pressure (Plowman & Smith, 2008). Hence, proper dieting and an effective exercise therapy are intervention strategies to improve the health of patients with hypertension (Cooper & Gosnell, 2013). At the same time, patients with hypertension need to be well guided on ways to use the exercise regimen and adherence to the best treatments. In any case, there are guidelines on the treatment of high blood pressure, and there is a need for more attention on integrating a healthy lifestyle with the medication.
Effectiveness of proposed solution
Patient education is associated with improved patient outcome, while nurses are likely to improve teaching effectiveness when they focus on patient centered care (Smith, 2013). Additionally, it is through living a healthy lifestyle that the patients can reduce complications and risk of high blood pressure. In order for the patient program to be a success, it is expected that the patients will be better informed to make the right decisions when relying on exercise therapy. Hence, the intervention will be considered successful if the hypertensive patients rely on the exercise therapy more effectively after the education sessions.
Nurses’ attitude and commitment
Nurses’ attitudes and commitment in patient education is important as there is a need to maintain patient safety, which is a key objective of patient education. Even though, nurses understand the benefits of exercise therapy, they may have negative views on implementation of proper patient education programs meant to enhance patient knowledge. If practicing nurses have a positive attitude towards the suggested changes to integrate patient education and exercise therapy, then they are more likely to be committed. On the other hand, if there are challenges which have not been addressed prior to undertaking the intervention, then nurses are more likely to resist change.
Patient perceptions and commitment
