Veterans suffering from limb loss encounter physical pain from their injuries. The wounded soldiers have to undergo numerous invasive medical procedures which are painful. Even after amputation, the healing process is also painful before a full recovery is achieved. Another physical concern is resuming to normal motor activities with loss of limbs. The veterans have to relearn how to the same things they used to do. The process is laborious and physically taxing without the benefit of all motor limbs (Messinger, 2009). This brings about the psychological traumas during the pre and posts the healing process.
A major psychological concern is depression. This results from recurring frustrations in an attempt to regain normalcy. Also, the veterans may suffer from social alienation resulting in depression.
