Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Research Paper Instructions:

Assignment: Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim
Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.
More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work-life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures is impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.
To Prepare:
• Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
• Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
• Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.
To Complete:
Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.
Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:
• Patient experience
• Population health
• Costs
• Work life of healthcare providers

Connection between EBP and Quadruple Aim
Evidence-based practice (EBP) refers to tried and test information and results in clinical work. The strategy largely depends on scientific research to bring forth credibility and assurance. The popularity of EBP is gaining traction because of the need to provide the best healthcare services at the least cost. Therefore, working from trial and error would limit healthcare proficiency. The limitation stems from the fact that some patients would be subject to harm or death due to the use of treatment and other procedures not proven to be safe and healthy. In addition, EBP is crucial in problem-solving within institutions of healthcare. The reason for engaging evidence in problems is to ensure that only solutions which have reliably resulted in positive or desired outcomes in the past become considered. In line with the supposition, Crabtree et al. (2016) inform that EBP provides information on solving patient preferences, organizational values, and healthcare procedures. As such, it is difficult to satisfy the quadruple aim without considering EBP.
It is through EBP that patients receive high-quality care. Considering the evidence of certain treatments to work informs that healthcare practitioners would not harm the patients due to either mistreatment or overdose. In addition, evidence is pertinent in ensuring that the tools and procedures engaged in diagnosis are accurate. Notably, misdiagnosis endangers the life of patients because it determines the treatment prescribed. When the diagnosis has a false negative, the patient's condition will worsen because the disease is not treated or controlled. For this reason, Crabtree et al. (2016) state that EBP enhances the skills of the nurses. Through EBP, nurses engage only tools and procedures they are certain of their effectiveness and safety.
Patient Experience
EBP improves patient experience through the engagement of high-quality practice. Notably, there are numerous ways of treating various health problems which patients exhibit. As a result, healthcare practitioners must choose the methods with the best health results. A...
