Step 1
Schizophrenia is a serious and complex mental disorder, which requires medication a, but multiple interventions may be more effective including psychological intervention, medication and family intervention. Considering that psychological therapies may be more effective even as they are not the first line of intervention effective this will help to improve patient outcomes better if they are offered access to them and not only to medication. Schizophrenia includes a series of disorders based on distortion in thoughts and perception including confusion and discontinuity in thought where the reality is distorted and there are false perceptions (Stafford et al., 2015). Adherence to treatments is usually something that is difficult to achieve, but with patients with conditions such as schizophrenia, achieving adherence seems an impossible mission. Non-adherence has serious consequences, including aggravation of symptoms and worsening patient outcomes.

Step 4
Altering the negative symptoms of schizophrenia using the antipsychotic interventions have had limited effect, yet there is focus on greater need to improve long-term functioning (Velthorst et al., 2014). Cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT) is one form of psychosocial intervention mostly used to enhance antipsychotic medication, and focuses on the positive psychotic symptoms.
