Case Study Mr. Jock Name Institution Case Study Mr. Jock Question 1 The patient is diagnosed with bipolar disorder with catatonia or psychotic features which is consistent with the symptoms described in the case study. The disorder is a mental condition that comes with severe low or high moods, changes in behavior, sleep, thinking, and energy. Additionally, it is seen as the inability of a person to recognize things which are around them. The inability described is different from what a person’s perceptions and thoughts tell them. The most common symptoms include delusion and hallucination (Reginsson et al., 2018). However, some of the common symptoms of the condition include less emotional expression, anxiety, reduced performance at school, reduced social contact, a problem in communicating, unwarranted suspicion of others, and less attention to personal hygiene. Finally, the condition develops slowly and may lead to a lack of awareness and incoherent speech and thoughts at later stages. Moreover, it is not caused by alcohol or drug addiction problem which is the case for the patient. Question 2 The major symptoms that made me conclude include the change in the moods of the patient. The patient was excited before suddenly collapsing and starting to experience the symptoms. The disorder is associated with a mix of moods where there are some periods when they are excited which is described as ‘’manic time.’’ Contrarily, there are some times when they feel sluggish, very sad, and hopeless. However, in between the periods, they feel normal, which is the reason why it is known as ‘’bipolar’’ to mean high and low ends. The patient decided to withdraw medical advice after the first time of admission because he felt that he had recovered and did not see the need for further medication. Another primary symptom is the fact that the patient had a medical history of not using drugs or alcohol. The disorder is not necessarily caused by drug use as most people with the condition do not have any history of alcohol or any other drug use just as the case of the disorder. Contrarily, most mental disorders are caused by excessive drug use, especially alcohol. Hence, the information provided by his friends that he has never used alcohol or any other drug rules out other possible mental disorders. Also, the patients show signs of reckless decision making and irritability where he suddenly collapses and puts his head on the ground and starts praying while ‘’frozen.’’ Further, he describes that he is communicating to God when interviewed which indicates that he is having signs of delusion and hallucination. The sign of delusion is seen where a person believes in things that are not true and cannot be talked about just as the strange behavior of the patient of speaking to God. Additionally, the signs of hallucination are seen where he is hearing things which do not exist like talking to God. The patient hears God speaking to him, and that is why he suddenly puts his head down as a sign of obedience to the highest. Finally, Jock feels like if he is full of energy and this can be seen in his change of behaviors of demanding more intimacy from his girlfriend and had frequently been attending the gym to ‘’burn off extra energ...
