1.    EBP Proposal Final Paper

Throughout this course you have been developing a formal, evidence-based practice proposal to improve quality of care or improve healthcare outcomes. The proposal is the plan for an EBP project designed to address a problem, issue, or concern in the professional work setting. Although several types of evidence can be used to support a proposed solution, a sufficient and compelling base of support from valid research studies is required as the major component of that evidence.

Proposals are submitted in a format suitable for obtaining formal approval in the work setting. Proposals will vary in length depending upon the problem or issue addressed, they can be between 3,500 and 5,000 words, approximately 11-16 pages. The cover sheet, abstract, references page, and appendices are not included in the word limit. A proposal with less than 11 pages or more than 16 will be charged a penalty in grading.

Section headings are required for each section exactly as outlined below. Evaluation of the proposal in all sections is based upon the extent to which the depth of content reflects graduate-level, critical-thinking skills.

This project contains seven formal sections:

  • Section A: Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment
  • Section B: Problem Description
  • Section C: Literature Support
  • Section D: Solution Description
  • Section E: Change Model
  • Section F: Implementation Plan
  • Section G: Dissemination of Evidence

The first six sections were submitted as separate assignments, so your instructor could provide feedback as noted above. Section G: Dissemination of Evidence is a new section to be included in the final paper/proposal but will not have feedback from the instructor. The final paper consists of the completed project (with revisions), title page, abstract, reference list, and appendices. Appendices will include a conceptual model for the project (figure, picture, or line drawing showing connection of key concepts), handouts, data and evaluation collection tools, a budget, a timeline, and resource lists.

The dissemination of the evidence is the final and most important step in the research process. Disseminating the evidence is vital to the application of research in practice.  It is the communication of research findings that allows for meaningful critique, evolution of new clinical questions, and application of research-based evidence in practice.  Research is of no value if the findings are not shared. ** This will be your SECTION G for your final proposal.**

There are a variety of methods to share evidence which are typically dictated by your practice situation or your interests.  You have already explored the most obvious, but the most difficult method, publication in a refereed journal.  However, your practice setting may have internal journal clubs or local presentations that are open for sharing your project.  Often local or state professional groups are looking for projects to share.  Some organizations may have blogs or other web-based chat rooms, etc. that provide an avenue for distributing your quality improvement question/problem and what you will do to solve the problem based on the best evidence.

This week's task is to complete the final proposal, incorporating all the previous week's material on how you would disseminate your strategies and plans to a professional group. Your paper will include a Title Page, Abstract, Introductory Paragraph (declaring your purpose/PICO), Sections A-G, Conclusion, References, and Appendices according to APA formatting.  Appendices will include a conceptual model for the project (figure or picture or line drawing showing connection of key concepts), evidence synthesis table, handouts, data and evaluation collection tools, a budget, a timeline, and resource lists. APPENDICES MUST INCLUDE YOUR CONCEPTUAL MODEL, EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS TABLE, BUDGET, AND TIMELINE AT A MINIMUM.

Section G – Dissemination of Evidence

Disseminating evidence to interest groups and stakeholders is one of the crucial aspects of research. This process allows for inciting more interest in one’s research topic and conducting further research about its applicability in various circumstances. Accordingly, this article would focus on disseminating research evidence after the conduct of the Evidence-based Program (EBP). Notably, this would focus on the results of the experiment regarding the PICOT question; “In cancer patients that have fatigue (P), what are the effect of exercise (I) on their fatigue level and quality of life (O) versus not exercising (C) after six months?”. Based on the preceding, the author believes that it is essential to find the crucial stakeholders to target this dissemination plan.
The Dissemination Plan
The dissemination plan for this EBP would include three phases or avenues of distribution, namely; (1) Duke Hospital’s nursing department, (2) Web forums, and (3) academic journals. This three-phase approach would provide the best way to improve the fundamental research further and increase its possible applicability in the future.
Duke Hospital Nursing Department
The first avenue where the author intends to disseminate the evidence is within the general nursing department of Duke Hospital. It was shown from the PICOT question of the research that the scope was then limited to the outpatient department, particularly those which are catering to the chemotherapy infusions for the patients. However, due to the similarity of workplace culture, aims, and resources, there is a high possibility of the same EBP being applicable within the whole nursing department. Additionally, the results and processes may be improved through reiteration or recalibration of the models and techniques used within the said department. Hence, this would be the first stakeholder or avenue where such evidence would be disseminated.
Web Forums
The second avenue where the evidence would be disseminated is through web forums such as Nurse.com and AllNurses.Com. These nursing web forums cater to almost every topic within the nursing field, including those that include the use of EBP to better the provision of healthcare. Accordingly, by using these forums to disseminate the evidence, greater mileage may be reached by the EBP, which could then prompt further research about the same throughout various healthcare spaces around the world. Ultimately, this could then create a sustainable and generally applicable process for the improvement of cancer fatigue around the world.
Academic Journal
Finally, the author wants to disseminate the evidence through academic journals. This is the last phase of the said dissemination process since the author plans to submit it for review once the EBP’s applicability and accuracy are tested in various circumstances. Some of the academic journals that the author targets are the American Journal of Nursing and the Journal of Nursing Care Quality. The author believes that once the evidence is published and peer-reviewed, such evidence may increase its credibility and authority that it...
