Differences Between Research and EBP
Although evidence-based practice (EBP) and nursing research are conceptualized via a clinical inquiry lens, important differences exist. Nursing research is the scientific process that authenticates and refines current knowledge and creates new knowledge to indirectly or directly influence nursing research. Nursing research is required to generate new knowledge regarding nursing leadership, nurses' attributes, nursing roles, nursing education, and health care services. Nursing research is central to building EBP for the profession (Grove & Gray, 2018). Nursing research starts with a question and makes a scientific inquiry to come up with answers to the problem. Its role is to validate a theory or create new knowledge, in this case, with respect to maternal care (Erickson & Pappas, 2020). On the other hand, EBP is the integration of patient values and circumstances, the best clinical evidence, and nurses' clinical experiences and expertise to achieve high-quality, safe, and cost-effective healthcare outcomes. The primary goal of EBP in nursing is to promote cost-effective, safe, and quality outcomes for patients, households, medical professionals, and the healthcare system (Grove & Gray, 2018). Based on the selected research topic, EBP entails establishing and translating premium quality evidence into maternal nursing practice interventions. It connects clinical decision-making with patient preference and expertise (Erickson & Pappas, 2020).
Purpose of Research in The Advanced Practice Nursing Role
Research plays a vital role in an advanced nursing role. Advanced practice nursing is a career choice for registered nurses (RNs). Research provides an avenue to commit to continuing clinical supervision and professional development, practice to the highest levels of autonomy, and deliver health care services to the best of their educational attainment and expertise. Applying high-quality and credible research helps promote high-quality patient care outcomes and guarantees practical implementation of EBP. The research results are necessary to ensure effective nursing care delivery supported by clinical evidence. In addition, research supports the educational attainment of advanced nursing roles (Casey & O'Connor, 2022). Therefore, research suppor...
