Provide a step-by-step explanation of how the data will be collected. The discussion should be sufficiently detailed to permit replication by someone else. Identify how findings will be presented in tables or charts when appropriate. Do not use word clouds. [2 pages].
2.6.3. Data Analysis Plan and Presentation Explain how you will analyze the data. For each project question, provide a description of the techniques to be used for data processing & analysis (such as coding, classification, categorization, tabulation, %, & statistical techniques, etc.). Define your approach for how you will present the final deliverable, which includes outcomes, findings, and recommendations to Healthcare administrator at a healthcare clinic. 2.6.2 Data Collection Methods
The study will employ a quantitative research design where the primary data collection method will be the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). MBI is the most widely applied instrument by researchers investigating fatigue or frustration among staff whose professional relationships have failed to result in the desired outcomes. The MBI is the first scientifically developed measure of burnout that conforms with the World Health Organization’s current definition of the occupational experience. It evaluates the extent and pattern of feelings of fatigue and exhaustion, heightened mental dissociation from one’s occupation or feelings of misanthropy towards one’s job, over and above, reduced professional efficacy (Brady et al., 2020). The inventory evaluates each of these three aspects of burnout individually based on a format that emerged from previous exploratory work on the occupational phenomenon. Previous research in the 1970s showed that employees experiencing burnout in the human service sector tended to describe their difficult relationships with work using the three dimensions.
The 22-item MBI was subsequently developed to bring together the three dimensions in a meaningful manner and so allow a more comprehensive assessment of staff burnout. This study will use the MBI – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) inventory that is designed for professionals in human services including nurses, social workers, therapists, and health aides (Knox et al., 2018). There are symptoms items that test for emotional exhaustion (the stress component underlying one’s professional work) including depletion of emotional resources and chronic fatigue. Another set of symptom items test for depersonalization (the individual’s response to the aforementioned emotional exhaustion) including detached, indifferent, and negative responses towards the recipients of the human service, in this case nursing treatment. Finally, a variety of symptom items test for the individual’s feelings of self-efficacy (personal accomplishment) including feelings of competence and successful achievement in one’s work (Lee, 2017). All MBI symptom items are scored using a 7-point frequency scale ranging from 0 for “never” to 6 for “daily”.
The MBI assessment tool will be administered as an online survey to all nurses working in the facility via the hospital’s website. This study will employ the pre-post study design where the MBI tool will be administered before and after the application of a facility-wide program aimed at reducing burnout in nurses. After the application of the 3-month program, another online survey will be conducted to determine the efficacy of the program intervention. One of the biggest advantages of using online surveys is their ability to provide real-time results for quick and easy analysis. Online survey projects...
