Research indicates that 3,661,220 infants were born in the United States (U.S.) in 2022 (Hamilton et al., 2022). In 2022, 13.9 live births were recorded in every 1000 teens aged between fifteen and nineteen (CDC, 2023). According to Marti-Castaner et al. (2022), 12.9 percent of American women struggled with poverty in 2018. Research posits that 67 percent of tenable mothers who do not reside with their parents live in poverty (Ney, 2021). Accordingly, 1,205 women lost their lives due to maternal causes in 2021 in the U.S. (Hoyert, 2022). In this vein, the 2021 maternal death rate was 32.9 deaths in every 100,000 women who had live births. This was an increase compared to 2020, with 23.8 deaths in every 100,000 women who had live births (Hoyert, 2022). Maternal mortality rates for minorities were 69.9 demises for every 100,000 live childbirths for non-Hispanic Blacks – 2.6 times the rate recorded in the non-Hispanic White population (Hoyert, 2022). Teen maternal mortality rates were 12.6 deaths in every 100,000 live births, with the statistics including women aged between 25 years (Hoyert, 2022).
The infant death rate in the U.S. was 5.42 deaths in every 100,000 live deliveries, a reduction from the 2019 statistic of 5.58 deaths (Ely & Driscoll, 2021). The infant mortality rate for African Americans was 10.4 in every 1000,000 live deliveries in the U.S. in 2022 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2023). Approximately 50 percent of recorded adolescent pregnancies were unplanned, and the infant mortality rate was twofold that of older mothers in America [26.6 compared to 12.0 demises in every 1000 live deliveries] (Arunda et al., 2022). The average child delivery costs in the U.S. are $18,865 (Childbirth), $14,768 (vaginal delivery), and $26,280 (Cesarean) (Rivelli & Masterson, 2023). Teen childbirth and pregnancy cost U.S....
