Preterm labor begins from the 36th week of pregnancy, and during this process, various changes in the cervix (including dilation and effacement) take place. When a woman experiences signs of preterm labor, she is recommended by her doctor to take bed rest and reduce the number of her physical activities. It’s safe to say that limited activities and bed rest are strongly linked to one another. These two things are recommended to ensure health of the woman and her unborn baby. However, bed rest may not be recommended to pregnant women prior to the 36th week of pregnancy, meaning they may or may not take rest from the 1st to 35th weeks of pregnancy (Norman & Greer, 2011).
An article published in the Journal of Medical Science And clinical Research reveals that in some situations, including preterm pregnancy, bed rest is not possible without limiting the number of physical activities.
