The two schools I did the fieldwork are:
1- Head Start preschool inclusion class (3–4-YEAR-OLD) (Nyack site) (September) interviewed Ms Gina ( special ed teacher)
2- Head Start Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) inclusion class (4–5-YEAR-OLD) (Spring Valley site) (November) interviewed Ms. Sandy( special ed teacher)
*By the way I work at these schools, I am a teacher assistant (I worked in Nyack site for about 6 years and I currently work in spring valley site since October)

• conduct observations and interviews with school staff (10 hours total). You will then analyze your observation and interview data. You will compare and contrast the two schools and relate what you found in “the real world” to what you read about in the textbook. You will discuss how what you leaned will inform your future work as an educator and a member of a school community.
Elements of the Assignment :
Here’s what you’ll need to do to complete the assignment: Visit two schools
• Conduct an observation study at each school
• Take objective field notes
• Interview at least one adult at each school
• open-ended interview
• questions that you believe will help you get the information you need to investigate your topic. This will also ensure that you remember to ask the interviewees at both schools the same basic questions.
• Collect “other” data to corroborate your observation and interview data. You will need to cite this data in your report. Depending on your topic, this data may include:

Analyze your field notes and interview data
After you complete your two observations and two interviews, you must reflect upon and write about what you have seen. You must relate it to what you are reading and learning about in this class ( EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS FROM DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES ) . You will need cite your sources using APA style and include a reference list. You must include at least one citation from the course readings, and you must cite any of the documents or internet sources you used in your research. You may also cite additional texts. Citing appropriate texts demonstrates your understanding of the relationship between theory and practice (or how what you read about relates to what goes on in reality).
In your 6-7-page paper, you should compare and contrast the salient aspects of what you observed in each school. Depending on the focus of your paper, this may include a description of the school buildings, the classrooms, what was used to decorate the school walls (school banners and emblems, slogans and mottos, multicultural images, student art, professional artwork), You can include if the teacher uses whiteboard, smartboard, visual aid or games to teach
You know the interaction between teachers and students and how the teacher teaches the students, the demeanor of the students, student-teacher rapport, parent-teacher rapport, the kinds of books in the libraries, the teaching materials and methods used, special services or accommodations provided, etc. Did anything surprise you? Did anything impress you? Did anything challenge your conception of what goes on in schools?
How did the people you interviewed add to your understanding of the schools’ pedagogy, practices, policies, or protocols? Were they able to help you interpret the things you observed? Were they open and willing to discuss the topics you mentioned?
In summary, you should discuss how your observations and interviews will inform your future work as an educator and a member of a school community.

Learnings from the Fieldwork
The Importance of Fieldwork
There are some curricula and circumstances that necessitate fieldwork. The process of viewing and accumulating information about people, societies, and natural environments is known as fieldwork. Fieldwork provides firsthand experiences that promote critical thinking, long-term retention, transfer potential, appreciation for nature, and increased scientific curiosity. Fieldwork allows a person to develop sensitivity and appreciation for various environments. Fieldwork can foster environmental stewardship and facilitate experiential learning. A pre-service teacher or a teacher who does fieldwork in education will undoubtedly learn a lot. When teaching, a teacher may observe the best practices and strategies used in the school and apply them to real-life situations (Iversen, 2020). For example, a teacher may implement a game-based activity previously observed by another teacher. Furthermore, a teacher may notice gaps in the school, such as a lack of resources or the presence of only a few stakeholders. Identifying these gaps and considering possible solutions once they are encountered is essential. Finally, a teacher may adapt the values, skills, and knowledge gained throughout the fieldwork. As a result, it is clear that fieldwork is necessary and that anyone who does it will undoubtedly benefit from the knowledge gained through experience.
Observation Report
This section of the paper aims to discuss how special education is implemented in two schools. Although there are policies and guidelines for dealing with students with disabilities, there are still minor differences in how schools deal with them. Thus, I have observed various classes from two different schools. The first school is in Nyack, with a preschool inclusion class with students aged three to four. Meanwhile, the second school is in Spring Valley, with a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) inclusion class for children aged four to five. Both schools have two inclusion classes for each site, with six special needs students and four teachers in each class.
Nyack
In September 2022, at 8:00 AM, I entered Ms. Gina’s class. She is a special education teacher. I visited her class because I needed to observe her school practices and conduct an interview.
The teacher greets the students as they arrive at school. Parents drop off their children and sign their names. The children then wash their hands and return to the table to play. The students then clean up after themselves and prepare to eat their breakfast. The teachers oversee breakfast. Ms. Gina teaches the students about days, weeks, months, and the weather while eating breakfast. The two teacher assistants instruct the students to wash their hands before eating. However, after finishing their meal, the students proceed to their rugs. The teacher will then assign activities to the students, known as the large group circle. The children will then be asked where they want to play after the activity. They can play inside or outside; if they choose to play outside, they put on their coats.
