Logistics efficiency aims to achieve various objectives, one such objective is to fulfill the customer’s orders quickly and ensuring the customer is satisfied with perfect customization and the customer should be able to rely on the company to meet his or her needs. Another objective that logistics efficiency should be able to meet is to achieve the lowest possible costs from the production of the product to the delivery of the same with the quality being maintained. Another objective is that logistics efficiency should minimize costs in fixed networking facilities and equipments. For these objectives to be met, there is need to design network facilities that cater for global and local locations of the company’s supply chain activities. these facilities should be efficient and competent. The company also needs to have efficient, reliable and flexible operating processes that ensure customer needs are met at the right moment (Martin, Peck, 2003). The company should also apply information technology to enable communication and the exchange of information for efficient logistics.
At Target Corporation, the Target stores are designed for logistics efficiency. this is because, the stores have multiple floors that have the sales area, offices and stores the transportation of products is enabled by escalator and elevators that help to save transportation time. The stores have double entry on single level stores and they are designed in such a way that shopping is made easy for the customers.
