 Hanna Andersson was started as a family-owned and -operated business selling European-style children’s clothing in the US. Tom and Gun Denhart started the line of children’s clothing where they distributed imported Swedish clothing in 29 retail stores and specialty retailers (Lumin learning). In 1995, the co-founders recognized they need to change and promoted managers from within the company. The company entered into the wholesale market, but still, there was the emphasis on employee benefit, working with the community, and sustainability.
Planning targets mapping out strategies to achieve set goals, and Hanna Andersson’s managers and leaders helped to steer the firm in new directions during expansion. The company’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives are essential to planning. Hanna Andersson’s employees embraced change, and there has been continued retail and online sales growth. The company’s founders further promoted a social vision where there are close working relations with the community and a focus on work-life balance. Since Hanna Andersson adopted internal operations changes and started selling wholesale, the company became more competitive as the management adapted to changing market dynamics.
Company leaders such as Phil Iosc, Petersen, and Stone were directly involved in integrating changes in the company as it expanded in distributing merchandise wholesale. Gun one of the two company founders remained at the company’s and foundation boards (Lumen learning). Stone was keen on supporting changes through the involvement of the employees to minimize resistance to change. Selling wholesale was a good strategic move for the company to remain competitive. The company leaders realized the need to change the company's internal processes to be well placed to operate wholesale and partnered with various retail businesses. As the company’s insiders were aware of the changes and what needed to be done to improve operations, the leadership was able to use resources strategically to achieve this.
Hanna Andersson changed to internally and externally to be competitive. The company opened several retail stores in different locations, expanded into the wholesale market, and online commerce inspired. During Iosca’s reign, the company partnered with Nordstrom and Costco to expand retail sales and reach.
