The article, Feminists We Love: Marissa Alexander provides the context in that, Marissa Alexander is a victim of domestic violence, and the way the legal system has failed to offer her justice. Because of the perceived unfairness, women have come together with a common agenda using a Free Marissa slogan, in an attempt to seek justice. According to Simmons and Bierria, the Free Marissa slogan has received support from advocates, support survivors of domestic violence and women; hence, success is almost an assurance.
Durazo (76) takes another approach to intervene in cases of violence. While there are many possible interventions to the matter, community accountability is among the proposed interventions. Communities have sought help from the law enforcement in events of violence, but the police profile women in respect to their race. In so doing, the police further violate their rights through brutality, incarceration, deportation, labor exploitation and sexually. However, if the community can come together, the community can develop working interventions to prevent violence, and this constitutes community accountability (Durazo 78).
Still, under community accountability, there are many approaches, which focus on the community, and they can prevent or address the issues of violence. Feminist social movements have been effective, but they need support from the community to end gender violence.
