Emotional Intelligence and the Behaviors to Increase Motivation

Reaction Paper Instructions:

In this assignment, you will be writing your first reflection paper. You can read more about the requirements here: Weekly Reflection Papers
In this module, you studied emotions, motivation, and personality. Based on what you learned in this module, what new behaviors might you choose to form? Here are some ideas to get you brainstorming (you do not have to use one of these specific ideas; you can come up with something else as long as it's related to our module this week):
In this module you learned about how emotions influence our thoughts, our motivation, and our behavior. How can you use this information to create behaviors around increasing your positive emotions?
We learned about emotional intelligence this week. Is there a goal you can set that will help you to increase your emotional intelligence?
What kind of behaviors would help you to increase your motivation? Think in terms of your intrinsic motivation or your extrinsic motivation.
Is there a habit you could implement to help strengthen your self-control or your self-regulation?
Think about how you would describe yourself using the Five-Factor Model (the Big Five traits). If there is a trait you score particularly high or low in, what kind of goals could you set in order to challenge yourself to make a change? For example, if you are low in conscientiousness, resulting in you often arriving late to appointments, what kind of goal might you want to create?
Please follow this template for your reflection assignment each week:
Key Takeaway: [This is where you will briefly explain, in 2-3 sentences, the most important thing that you learned from the textbook reading in this module.]
My Reflection: [This is where you will actually reflect on this new information that you learned. How do you feel about what you read? How has it changed your viewpoint or way of understanding? This should be at least two paragraphs in length]
Important Quote: [Please include a direct quotation from the reading that you felt was meaningful or important. Be sure to include the page number. After the direct quote, explain in 2-3 sentences why this quote was meaningful or important to you.]
How I will use this in my life: [Write clear and specific ideas for how you will use this information in your life to make a change, or any specific behaviors that you will add or change now that you have learned this information. What goals might you set for yourself after what you learned in this module? This should be 1-2 paragraphs in length]

The key takeaway from the textbook this week is the relationship between emotions and immediate action. It is amazing to understand the nexus between the emotional state and the changes that take place in the body to prepare it for action. Learning the relationship between emotions and behavior lays a foundation for understanding the importance of cultivating positive emotions as well as emotional intelligence.
I learned a sizeable amount of information this week. One of the new things that I learned was emotional intelligence. I learned that there is a strong relationship between cognition and emotions. I also understood that emotions play such a huge part in influencing our decisions and relationships, among other things. I put myself in the shoes of the person who waited in line for hours only to be told that the tickets were sold out. I almost felt emotions of anger rising in me just by the mere imagination of such a scenario. Further, I reflected on my own life and identified many times when emotions influenced my decision-making, either for better or for worse.
The second key thing I learned was that emotional intelligence is a skill that can be learned. I feel great about having this information since I now understand that one can seek emotional intelligence. Further, learning about emotional intelligence has changed my perception of the approach to emotional well-being. Prior to learning about emotional intelligence, I thought it was normal and justified to feel angry or other negative emotions. However, I no...
