Understanding the importance of various literary themes is essential for any reader. It allows him to better appreciate how the author combines various literary elements to convey the message and the emotional appeal that he added to the story. Accordingly, this article would focus on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of Red Death. Notably, the author would look at the various elements and characteristics that Poe used, such as tension, conflict, and resolution, among others. All in all, it is the author’s belief that a closer dissection of pieces of literature allows for better comprehension and appreciation of the author’s intent.
The Masque of Red Death
One of the reasons for the fame of Poe’s The Mask of Red Death is the author’s unique way of creating tension. In the story, it could be seen that the climactic point was when Prince Prospero was face-to-face with the Red Death despite their efforts to avoid death itself. Like a thief at night, the Red Death confronted the Prince, similar to how previous figures have died. However, even though the climactic moment leaves a solid emotional sensation upon the reader, a closer look at the plot shows how Poe used the whole story to slowly build this tension.
