Leadership and management approaches have been changing over the past several decades. What was deemed to be the standard way of managing people is now being questioned by new approaches. The current leadership or management environment has been redefined with new things being tried out, especially by the new generation of leaders. These new ideas have in turn brought up new styles that have helped create new perspectives of effective leadership. I believe that we are in a new age that really interprets and applies management through a new lens, quite different and radical from what was traditionally the case. With the type of people in the workplace presently, these new approaches are quite important in ensuring that everyone feels part of the team.
I believe that the current environment can thrive more under soft management rather than the traditional hard or tough one, because of the humanistic nature it has. There are virtually very little instances whereby an individual can stick at simply being and appearing tough just for the sake of wanting to appear so. We are living at an age where subordinates also want to be taken as important players in organizations. Subordinates want their opinions to be listened to and even implemented in some instances. They do not want to be automatons with press button reactions; just being there for the sake of taking orders from above. It is always a critical element of operation, if productivity is to be achieved.
