Understanding of Aging

Aging is often accompanied by various cognitive illnesses that result from cognitive impairment. It is, therefore, important to routinely conduct cognitive impairment tests to identify the emerging cognitive deficits, their possible causes, and appropriate treatment approaches for treatable conditions. One of the effective management procedures is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Marra et al. (2015) look at how the technique can be used to address mild cognitive impairment among the elderly. The researchers utilize a double-blinded randomized control trial involving 34 elderly outpatients, who were subjected to 10 sessions of active TMS and sham.
While the researchers do a commendable job in introducing the topic, conducting the research, presenting the results, and explaining them, the study has some key limitations that may influence the interpretation of the results. One of them lies in the heterogeneity of the sample because of the presence of a continuum of memory impairment from normal aging to mild cognitive impairment.
