Leadership values are essential aspects that determine the performance of an entity. There are specific values that a leader must exhibit to ensure that they can steer an organization forward. The leadership values are also closely linked with the organization's values and determine how well an organization can perform (de Souza Freitas et al., 2012). In the African culture, fundamental leadership values include the ability to influence others and exhibit a strong vision for the organization. Moreover, the leader is expected to exhibit empathy and integrity in all his actions. Within the organization's context, fundamental values that people expect include having a clear code of ethics to guide operations, have strong employment policies, offer direction for operational and strategic decisions.
In the Indian culture, core leadership values include motivating and acting as role models for employees and acting as representatives for the investor or organization. The leader is also expected to be a keeper of the organizational culture and exhibit humility. Core organizational values strengthen accountability and integrity, promote service, and enhance the organization's ethical culture (Bansal & Bajpai, 2011). Leadership values in the American culture include respect, authenticity, courage, and the ability to make a difference. The leader is also expected to demonstrate a broad understanding of human dynamics and balance diverse stakeholders' interests. The corporate core values in America include promoting an environment of collaboration and mutual respect. This important because it affirms the value of each employee within the organization.
Based on Rokeach's instrumental and terminal values, we can see that all three cultures have instrumental values. This is because the values are used to express the person's perspectives and ideas (Tuulik et al., 2016). The instrumental values reveal important objectives that an individual or organization would like to attain during their lifetime. They reveal the day-to-day life of the people and how they define relationships with peers or subordinates.
