A disease is a harmful development caused by the impaired normal functioning of body parts. It is a pathological process, a deviation from the biological norm. It is often physical, as seen in the case of bronchus cancer. Its origin is sometimes undetermined. Diseases are central facts in the medical view. Illness is a feeling of being unhealthy and is purely personal. Illness often accompanies the disease. The disease may be undeclared at the onset of an illness—for example, the early stages of cancer. At times an illness may exist in the absence of disease (Howell et al.).
