Social justice subject addresses the perception that everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities. The subject covers the main role of social workers, which is to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities regardless of their wealth status. It challenges people’s perception and their stand on several social issues and presents them with a different point of view that should guide their interactions and discussions. The topic is wide as it covers several issues, including race and racism, ethnicity, and social profiling. The article, “Leaning in: A Student’s guide to engaging constructively with social justice content” by Robin J. Diangelo and Ozlem Sensoy presents an excellent overview of the topic, allowing the reader to focus on some critical social issues and their application in real life situations. The response affirms the authors’ assertions and also notes that the trend that the learners take reflects the general conduct of the society.
In the article, the authors note that students tend to be resistant to new and challenging critical frameworks. It is this lack of the flexibility to adjust to the new content that makes these learners to lack the intellectual humility to accept their flows and adjust accordingly.
