1. As we talked about in class, the health and health care disparities in this country are extensive and well-documented. Based on the various contributors to disparities discussed in class and in your book, what do you believe is the most likely way to ameliorate some of these disparities?
2. The racial/cultural disparities seen in physical health (higher rates of disease among ethnic minorities) are OPPOSITE when we examine the rates of psychological disorders among Whites and other racial/ethnic minority groups (lower rates of disease among ethnic minorities). This is somewhat unexpected given the psychological difficulty in dealing with discrimination and racism? Why do you believe that the direction of mental health disparities is opposite to physical health disparities?
3. Given the totality of things you have learned, heard, or discovered in class, what types of things do you think you can personally do to help become more multiculturally competent as you go on in your career and life.

In my purview, the most affirmative action to combat health disparities is implementing transformative care practices that acknowledge racism in healthcare. With insights, experiences, and stories of the minorities, researchers can develop customized approaches to abolish institutional racism CITATION Jon00 \l 1033 (Jones). As a Chinese living in America who has been a victim of discriminatory attitudes and stereotypes, I believe that accessing the degree to which the disproportionate burden of healthcare is grounded on racism will combat healthcare disparities.
For decades cases of psychological disorders among minorities have been less documented, and there is minimal research on the incidence and prevalence.
