My major is Psychology. My short-term goal is going to graduate school at ___ to study Fashion management. My long-term goal is join Masion Margiela (a fashion company) and then start my own business. I want to open a multi-brand boutique and locate in Shanghai, the most prosperous city in China. In my career, I will work and assist people from diverse backgrounds in a variety of different contexts. I understand that cultural diversity and inclusivity are significant in fashion management. Some of the challenges I see working and studying with individuals from distinct cultures include language barriers, differences in professional etiquette, conflicting working styles, and communication misinterpretation. In particular, working or studying with people from diverse backgrounds can be challenging if one is not open to learning new things from them. For example, language differences lead to communication issues. Due to the distinction in cultural beliefs, values, norms, and morals, people from diverse backgrounds have conflicting working styles and professional etiquette. For instance, some individuals prioritize punctuality, while others do not pay much attention to time. Such differences might make it challenging to assist these people.
However, the primary ways that I can improve my interactions with people from diverse backgrounds include being open-minded, showing willingness to learn new things, embracing cultural intelligence, diversity, and inclusivity. In particular, cultural intelligence entails recognizing and adapting to culturally diverse situations (Yin, 2022). I understand that people from diverse backgrounds have unique talents and skills. However, the unwillingness to accommodate such individuals due to cultural differences can make it extremely difficult to work with them. In that light, I will always remain open-minded so that I can interact with all people regardless of their cultures, races, religions, ethnicities, and skin color so that I can learn new things.
