Martin Luther King Jr.  I. Introduction a. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” b. These words were some of the phrases that ushered a revolution for equality that resonated through time.  c. It is still essential to learn about these struggles and important events in history, not only to appreciate what our ancestors have done but also to continue the progress that we made as a society. d. In this speech, I will talk about Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to racial equality and justice.  II. Main Points a. Main Point I – Martin Luther King Jr. had a life that inspired others i. Martin Luther King Jr. was a social rights activist and a Baptist minister who fought vigorously against racial oppression during the 1950s and 1960s (Lewis). ii. King was born in a middle-class family in the South. He had a relatively comfortable life, good education, and social status back in the days as his father and mother were Baptist ministers.  iii. However, King Jr. was not blinded by these comforts as he was aware. He experienced some of the strong prejudices against Blacks commonly experienced, especially in the South (Lewis). Through time, King rose to prominence and gained ground as a social activist leader by being the head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).  b. Main Point II – Martin Luther’s actions during his life inspired others.  i.
