Kathe Kollwitz was one of the exceptional artists who utilized a wide range of arty elements and design principles. The Outbreak is one of the unique artworks by the artist that has an outstanding composition. In print, Kollwitz positions the figure of a woman, Black Anna, on the back, poised at the edge of a picture plane. The artist utilizes the strategy to engage viewers throughout the plate (de Vries p. 56). The art is a progressive reimagining of female autonomy during revolutionary times. Kathe centralizes the woman’s breasts in the composition. Besides, the woman figure’s is of classicized prettiness. Kathe Kollwitz utilizes unique art elements in depicting Black Anna as a lone woman who incites peasants in defending themselves and their families based on her unique appearance as illustrated in the Outbreak artwork.
