In chapter 8, Migliore makes the statement that "perhaps the primary reason we have such difficulty in making sense of the death of Jesus as "for us" is that it is an event of violence." The author points out that we are skillful in disguising the violence that characterized Christ's death "for us." I believe that rather than hiding the violence present in Jesus' crucifixion, it is vital for Christians to have an understanding of the death on the cross as essential in creating a new humanity that no longer embraces systems of violence.
