Kirk Kristofferson, Katherine White and John Peloza in their research paper bring out one of the aspects that have been highly contested in the social, economic and scholarly circles with two main factions to the debate. The main theme of the paper relates to the term Slacktivism. This further revolves around the theories of self-consistency and impression management. Ideally when people pledge to take part in a given cause on the social frontier, there are a number of ways that they can achieve their goals (Kristofferson, White & Peloza, 2014). People can use ribbons, pins, sign petitions or even like Facebook pages or other social media platforms in a show of their support to the cause. Previous research had brought on some sharp divides in the opinion over the same issues, with close reference to the practicality of the commitment to the causes.
According to the paper, part of the faction on the debate feels that once people make pledges such as liking Facebook pages on worthy social causes, they do not follow up with meaningful contributions either economically, with their skills or simply time from the busy schedules. However the other faction feels that, the aspect of committing an act such as liking a Facebook page, although trivial, is the first step towards making more meaningful contributions to the cause understated (Kristofferson, White & Peloza, 2014).
