Alzheimer’s Dementia
Alzheimer’s is a gradual disease that damages memory and other significant mental functions. Causes vary from age, genetics, environment, lifestyle, and social coexistence.
Three ways in which people can proactively try to avoid the onset of Alzheimer’s Dementia
By maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and eating a balanced diet by reducing saturated fats and sugars intake protects the brain. Diets such as the Mediterranean encourage less red meat, vegetables, fruits, grains, shellfish, and fish. Also, DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is encouraged.
By undertaking physical exercises. Physical activity improves the brain cells directly by boosting the flow of blood and oxygen to them. Healthy older people's brains have also been found to be affected by aerobic activity. One year of aerobic exercise resulted in a minor increase in the size of the hippocampus (the primary brain region associated with memory) in a modest-sized controlled experiment, which was similar to correcting one to two years of age-related shrinkage.
By being socially active. Having a strong social connection with family and friends reduces the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's (Alzheimer’s). Social connection is beneficial to the brain, similar to exercise, and can help to reduce symptoms such as memory loss. Staying socially active with friends and family has been demonstrated to enhance self-esteem, which implies better food habits, more activity, and adequate sleep for persons with dementia.
