Abstract:
The study investigates the father's investments of time and money across residential contexts. Over the past 50 years, the role of fathers in the family has changed. Because of this, the article elaborates the fathers' economic capabilities and responsibilities and their amount of actual participation and engagement with their children. This is followed by an evaluation of the financial capacities and contributions of both resident and non-resident fathers in relation to their direct involvement. Finally, an analysis regarding the father's direct involvement in child support effectiveness is provided. Even though the collected results were treated as preliminary, it is concluded that the father's financial position determines maximum child support. Fathers with enough resources, even when they are non-resident, are likely to meet the needs of their children compared to residential fathers with limited financial stability.
Contribution to the literature:
This study is supported by various relevant articles that focus on the arguments of fathers' financial position and their capability to meet the needs of children. According to the U.S Census Bureau 2010, the percentage of children under age 18 living separately from their fathers is 27. This is because many births are stipulated to occur out of the marriage, and recent marriages end up in divorce, so many fathers find themselves living away from their biological children. From a different perspective, it is clear that fathers' "breadwinner" role has changed because mothers have embraced the idea of being employed (Brown & Nelson, 2011). For this reason, the role of fathering has extended from financial responsibility to nurturing and providing direct care. In relation to the topic, this concept of "new fatherhood" is deliberated to have various consequences linked to the contemporary engrossment of fathers across diverse residential contexts. Generally, paternal commitments of money and time occur spontaneously for consanguineous and specifically married males under what some researchers have named the "package deal." Non-resident fathers, on the other hand, have both hurdles and impediments to being associated with their youngsters, and financial assistance may be an essential factor for fathers' inclusion in different ways.
Hypothesis:
1 Meeting the needs of children is determined not only by the residential or non-residential context but also by the father's financial position.
2 The active involvement of a father in their children's lives with respect to money and time is restrained by the lack of enough economical resources.
Data:
In this analysis, the data came from a study of Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing. The study includes both married and unmarried births totaling 4897.
