Introduction
Habitat for Humanity (HH) is an international housing organization that collaborates with local communities in more than 50 states in the United States (U.S.) and roughly seventy nations. The organization’s vision is to create a world where every person lives in a decent house and environment. It constructs decent and affordable homes in collaboration with families needing a proper living place. Habitat is working towards achieving the vision by building stability, self-reliance, and strengths in partnership with households that need affordable and decent housing. HH home purchasers aid in building their own homes alongside volunteers, and they pay an affordable mortgage. This report delineates HH’s organizational culture; its cultural attributes such as stories, symbols, and artefacts; identifies three stated values of the entity, including how they support the corporate strategies; restates the strategy and the rationale for its selection; and lastly, evaluates critically the degree to which the entity’s values and culture support or fail to support the identified strategy.
Description of HH Culture
The culture of any community is characterized by shared understandings, values, goals, and assumptions derived from previous generations, imposed into the current community, and passed to future generations via different approaches. In addition, the no-profit loans make it inexpensive for underprivileged families to buy Habitat homes. Furthermore, HH integrates advocacy into its work. HH advocates for transforming policies and practices to remove obstacles to fair, affordable housing (Bryce, 2017). The building is an element of the solution. However, the less visible housing features such as rules, guidelines, and systems and the directive on land and the built environment are also vital. Hence HH advocacy approach is premised on years of on-the-ground encounters and policy proficiency. HH likewise have stories from communities impacted by HH work and how their lives improved. In addition, Habitat’s philosophy is anchored on the “economics of Jesus” – the principle that every person’s life is priceless, thus the need to exercise consideration for others to ensure they are not exploited for selfish benefits or profits (Habitat for Humanity, n.d.). Habitat’s culture depicts the norms, goals, and expectations shared and embraced by its organizational members.
Description of HH Values and Influence on Strategy
As discussed in the preceding section, HH’s cultural profile focuses on serving all people by strengthening and building sustainable and safe homes. Habitat homeowners collaborate with volunteers to develop their places at an affordable mortgage. In this context, the HH’s cen...
