The Impact of MBN Intervention on Variations in Maternal Depression
Background
In Baggett et al. (2021), the researchers are concerned that there is an absence of integrated interventions that are effective in minimizing maternal depression and initiating parent-mediated practices that enhance social-emotional and social communication competencies. The objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of Mom and Baby Net (MBN), a mobile internet intervention that couches parents remotely. Specifically, the study evaluates the impact of MBN intervention on variations in maternal depression, parenting approaches, and knowledge. The research question is, “Can internet interventions improve maternal moods to enhance infant development in social and emotional trajectories?”
For Diebold et al. (2020), the investigators wish to bring to attention that while preventive interventions are available, there is limited literature on the appropriateness of the interventions, particularly those delivered by paraprofessionals. The purpose of the study is to examine the appropriateness of mothers-babies (MB) programs delivered differently in managing perinatal depression. The objective of the study is to establish the acceptability and appropriateness of MB for both the facilitators and clients. The study question is, “In managing depression through MB programs, are professionals more effective?”
Relationship with PICOT question
The study relates to the PICOT question since it addresses social, emotional, and communication approaches needed to address postpartum depression. The proposed approaches to managing depression are non-pharmacological. Hence, by evaluating the outcome of the particular interventions, the article helps highlight non-pharmacological ways mothers can utilize to address depression. Diebold et al. (2020) link to the PICOT question since it focuses on non-pharmacological intervention (mothers-babies programs) in addressing perinatal depression. Here, the article sees non-pharmacological as an effective way of addressing the issue, which is the same intention as the PICOT question. Further, both the PICOT question and the article focuses on prenatal depression.
In both articles, the interventions are non-pharmacological, which is the same as that of the PICOT question. In this case, the articles employ non-pharmacological intervention. The PICOT question seeks to identify the effectiveness of non-pharmacological approaches in dealing with prenatal depression. However, in the PICOT question, the comparison groups utilize pharmacological interventions. However, in the articles, the comparison groups entail where the non-pharmacological intervention was not used at all.
Method of Study
Baggett et al. (2021) utilize a two-arm randomized controlled intent-to-explore trial method. This is an approach for analyzing results in a prospective randomized study whereby all the participants who are randomized form part of the statistical analysis (McCoy, 2017). The participants are also analyzed according to the particular category where they belonged initially, regardless of the treatment received. The method is critical in allowing researchers to obtain unbiased results about the effectiveness of ...
