The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted in 1996 by Congress (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). Essentially, the regulation ensures that patients can decide what kind of health information should be disclosed or shared with the relevant parties. The Act creates norms to ease the protection of patient data and information. Network, process, and physical security methods are essential for organizations that deal with protected health information. This usually affects various patient processes, such as payment and treatment exercises. Therefore, the selected policy works towards ensuring that the privacy of patients' information is upheld. Therefore, healthcare providers around the country are required, under this law, to provide the patients with the chance to dictate certain aspects of their private data to them during the whole treatment process (Moore & Frye, 2019). The Act allows people to see their medical information and request corrections if it is erroneous.
