Globalism vs. Globalization
Individuals, groups, and nations develop connections through the said networks resulting from social, political, or economic interactions and integration. These networks of connection may span over large geographical distances, including the bilateral, regional, and cross-continental networks. Such connections across the social, political, and economic dimensions give rise to the globalism phenomenon. On the other hand, globalization refers to how the established networks of connections operate across the globe. Economic globalism, for instance, might be a function of shared economic ideologies and principles within and between the United States and its Latin American neighbors in South America (Stucke, 2009). Increased interdependence among the nations involved and consequent spread or adoption of the said ideologies to other regions and countries worldwide makes for globalization. The vice versa reduces globalization as it decreases the intensity of developing networks of connections across the economic dimension. In essence, globalization is a function of the intensity or rate at which individuals, groups, or nations operate through the networks of connections across the social, political, and economic dimensions.
Benefits of being a Global Citizen
Global citizenship calls for the integration of various factors and elements characterizing the equally diverse perceptions on the identity of a global citizen. A global citizen may, for instance, characterize themselves as supporters and believers in the promotion of pro-social values such as social justice, equality, and environmental concern for a better world. In this world of advanced technology, it is easier for one to embrace diversity, equality, social justice, environmental awareness and responsibility, and morality due to the increased intensity of interaction and integration at the global platform (Katzarska-Miller, 2018). Advanced technology in the current world allows one to understand the social, cultural, political, and economic differences through increased integration and interaction aided by advanced telecommunication platforms. It is also easier to gain academic knowledge through the same platforms for personal development through online learning programs. The integrated qualities of a global citizen further enhance one's chances of getting employed globally and thus advancing their professional career.
