Westernization is the process or phenomenon whereby different societies incorporate Western traditions, cultures, ideas, etc. as a part (or even the standard) of their own culture. Such phenomena are brought upon by the increase in globalization, where the dominance of Western societies has resulted in an increasingly homogenized culture all around the world. 
While this can manifest in almost all aspects of life, Westernization could easily be seen on how it affects the academic writings of Asian scholars (Waisbord & Mellado, 2014). Despite the rise of different ‘local paradigms’ in different regions in Asia, a closer look would show how early writings have used Western paradigms that originated from the studies of European contexts. 
Nevertheless, some of the writings that have addressed this issue of Westernization were Benitez’s works and Chang’s novel entitled ‘Love in a Fallen City’. On the one hand, Paz Marquez-Benitez was a Filipina writer who was able to establish her name in the post-colonial setting of the Philippines.
