Journal on the Biggest Moral Dilemma Faced in Life

Other (Not Listed) Instructions:

Look back at your recall of the biggest moral dilemma that you have ever faced and for which you lacked the moral courage to say anything to anyone (you journaled about this in Week 01). To whom would you speak? What would you say? Provide a brief introduction that outlines the moral dilemma, to whom you would speak, and what you would say. Drawing from at least three sources from this course, justify your strategy. Then write a script that details the conversation that you imagine occurring between the other person and you (restrict your journal entry to 2 pages).
Hello,
I have attached my diary 1, please write the final journal based on the content in my journal 1.

I faced a moral dilemma when I saw someone stealing drugs from a store and did not say anything to the shopkeeper. The shoplifter took advantage of the distracted shop attendant and stole some drugs. Despite witnessing the person pocketing the pills, I did not say anything to the attendant. Instead, I kept quiet as if nothing had happened. However, I was disappointed in myself for not alerting the shopkeeper. I felt bad that the shopkeeper had lost money, yet I was in a position to prevent it. I put myself in the shoes of the shop attendant and felt that I would have wished someone to alert me in the case someone was stealing my property. I would speak to the shoplifter and have him understand that his actions are immoral and unethical. I would get the individual to go back to the drug store and admit that he has stolen medication and is willing to face any consequences.
This strategy is appropriate because it would allow the individual involved to consider the morality of his actions. Sometimes, individuals fear exposing moral issues because of fear (Kish-Gephart, 2009). Hence, they keep quiet and allow immoral issues to continue. Through morality, individuals know what is right and wrong (Ellemers et al., 2019). Here, I am responsible for ensuring that the individual understands that stealing is wrong. Furthermore, According to Jin & Peng (2021), moral judgments convey important information about an individual’s judgment. As a result, by taking action to engage the shoplifter, I would also be persuading him to start making moral judgments.
