Nurses must consider many important variables when selecting instructional materials. Effective teaching includes developing skill in designing and planning for instruction. Learning can be more enjoyable for both the nurse and the learner when the instructional material is chosen strategically to enhance the teaching- learning experience (Bastable, 2017, p.419).
1. Create a written rationale of approximately 500 words maximum (12 pt. font double spaced) that addresses how you considered each of the three major variables that influence your choice when determining your instructional material:
Characteristics of the Learner: Many variables are known to influence learning. Nurses must know their audience so that they choose tools best suited to the needs and abilities of various learners. These considerations include (but are not limited to) sensory and motor abilities, reading skills, motivational levels, developmental stage and learning style. Identify the learner who will be using your instructional material and discuss how you considered one (1) of the above characteristics during the design process. Support your discussion with specific clinical examples and use of course theory and relevant/reliable literature.
Characteristics of the Medium: A wide variety of mediums are available to enhance teaching methods. Because no single medium is more effective than all other options, the nurse should be flexible in considering which medium best complements the content and their chosen instructional method. Discuss the rationale for the medium chosen for your instructional material. Provide supportive evidence for this decision using information gathered from course theory and relevant/reliable literature.
Characteristics of the task: Identify the learning domain (cognitive, affective, psychomotor) that is addressed in the instructional material. Discuss the complexity of the learning behaviours and tasks you hoped would be achieved through using the instructional material. Provide supportive evidence for the domain and define the tasks that must be accomplished. Support your discussion using course theory and relevant/reliable literature.

Nurses perform a wide variety of functions that cover not only the provision of care but also those directly (and indirectly) related to their practice. Among the nursing profession's responsibilities, the need to employ 'preventive' measures against illnesses is perhaps one of the most important for public health. However, similar to other instructional guides, a nurse must understand how to increase these functional materials' effectiveness and efficiency. Thus, in this article, the author would like to discuss the rationale for choosing a 'trifold brochure' to teach individuals how to prevent antibiotic resistance among the general population.

Characteristics of the Learner
The tri-fold brochure used as instructional materials in this assignment is primarily targeted towards parents of American households. The main reason why parents are chosen is that this population is most likely to provide antibiotics to their children even in simple illnesses back before regulations were put in place.
