PART 1: Overview and background information
The company chosen for analysis in this case is the a2 Milk Company. The company was founded in New Zealand back in 2000 by a scientist called Dr Corrie McLachlan in collaboration with his business partner, Howard Paterson. The two were inspired by their understanding that all milk is not the same, and sought to capitalize on the idea. Since its formation, the company has worked with various scientists from different parts of the world in pioneering scientific understanding of the exclusive benefits associated with the A2 protein type found in the milk the company makes. The company is driven by its purpose of enriching the lives of people all over the world through the milk it makes.
The most well-established market for the company at the moment is Australia, and it has operated in the market since 2007. The company continues to grow in the fresh milk market as it has registered an overall growth of 10.7% in its revenue as well as 11.2% market share. However, the company has also sought to establish further branches in markets such as New Zealand, where its milk was available in stores since July FY19. Further, it has ventured in markets like the Greater China since 2013, the United States of America since 2015, and it continues exploring other markets where it identifies investment opportunities. For instance, it is testing investment in Vietnam, Korea, and Singapore. Therefore, it is expected that the number of branches and stores will increase.
