Analysis of Ron Fricke's Film
Ron Fricke's Baraka (1992) was shot in 70mm, in 24 countries and on six continents over a 14-month period and it will be unlike anything you have ever watched in your entire life. Watch the film on the largest screen you have access to and make sure that you have the least amount of distractions (turn phone & notifications off.) To receive full credit on this response you must WATCH THE ENTiRE FiLM and post a response (minimum of 200 words) that explores your feelings. Please attempt to deconstruct the style, techniques, and/or approach emphasized by specific scenes that stuck out for you. Response To Ron Fricke’s Baraka (1992)
Ron Fricke’s Baraka is the best film I have seen yet. From the beginning, it is clear the director likes using wide angles and then focusing on specific things to highlight everything that is happening in one place. For instance, the film begins with wide-angle shots of amazing sceneries, which are then narrowed down to a single mountainous region with a pond of water forming at its base. Here, the director takes a close-up shot of a Japanese Macaque enjoying the warm water in the pond and relaxing.
Fricke’s film shows what we are blessed with our planet. At the same time, it shows how we have chosen to pillage it at our own expense. Fricke goes back in time, starting with the holoca...
