Social Change Like Fashion Design On The Fast Lane (Movie Review Sample)

Intro to Fashion Studies – Fashion Film Response
The final assignment asks you to choose one film (either Dior and I or The True Cost) and analyze it with reference to the ideas and topics we've talked about this term. You can choose either film but you should focus your answer on only one film, not both.
Once you've chosen which film to focus on, you will analyze it with reference to our course topics and readings. You must explicitly refer to and cite specific course texts, which vary based on the film you choose to analyze and the type of argument you want to make. At least one text must come from the list below, and the others should come from the course syllabus (you can use outside research in addition to syllabus sources).
Required Readings (Choose one from this list)
 Yuniya Kawamura – “Designers: The Personification of Fashion” (Week 13)
 Cathy Horyn – “Raf Simons Speaks to Cathy Horyn on the Speed of Fashion” (Week 13)

 Vanessa Friedman – “This Earth Day, Green is the New Denim” (Week 14)
 Paolo Borges – “Brands Should Consider a Season-Less Show Model” (Week 14)
In your fashion film response of 600-700 words, discuss how your film communicates some larger social or cultural idea about the fashion industry and include analysis and evidence to demonstrate how your film communicates this. What does your film tell us about fashion as an industry and how does it accomplish this? What does it say? How does it say it? Summarize your argument about your film in a clear, one-sentence thesis statement.
The primary goal for this assignment is for you to demonstrate that you can connect the film to ideas from the course and that you can use those ideas to clearly and thoughtfully analyze your example.
You will be graded on how well you meet the requirements listed above and the following criteria:
 A clear description and contextualization of your fashion film
 A clear, one-sentence thesis statement that summarizes your argument about your film
 A clear, thoughtful analysis of your film, connected to course topics and informed by analysis of course readings
 Generous, explicit, and thoughtful connection to the sources of your research through citations
 An introduction, conclusion, and bibliography formatted according to Chicago style
 Clear writing and evidence of editing and proofreading

Social Change like Fashion Design on the Fast Lane
Social Change like Fashion Design on the Fast Lane
Gone are the days when fashion designers had months to come up with the ideas that they would then use for the fashion shows. This has all changed and they all have less time. Sometimes they will have as less than a week to prepare and come up with complete lines. The documentary Dior and I is one that mimics the changes that have embraced the fashion industry. Much like the technology industry, this is an industry that is constantly changing. The society is constantly changing their views of what they find appealing and what they feel should be changed. For the fashion designers, the element of leisurely bringing to the audience new ideas is all gone. They now have to work under the pressure of making sure they can deliver in the least time possible and still bring some fresh ideas along. The fashion industry like the social changes in the society is a fast lane, it is constantly changing and fast.[Cathy Horny, "Bof Exclusive | Raf Simons Speaks To Cathy Horyn On The Speed Of Fashion", The Business Of Fashion, last modified 2015, accessed May 1, 2018.
One of the first indications of the fast passed industry that has become the fashion arena is the fact that, after Dior had closed shop for close to a year following the sacking of the previous director John Galliano, Raf comes in and is given a meager eight weeks to make sure that he has jumpstarted the line with a fresh show. This was a line that had completely stalled following the sacking of the previous designer. Now Raf had exactly two months to figure out how to start off the line. This is a rather short time, considering that in the past, designers would be given an estimated six months to get their creative works on a show and get the industry and the fashion house on the news. This is a rather reflective element of the fashion industry and one that mimics the fast lane that it has turned into.[Cathy Horny, "Bof Exclusive | Raf Simons Speaks To Cathy Horyn On The Speed Of Fashion", The Business Of Fashion, last modified 2015, accessed May 1, 2018 [Text Trey Taylor, "Why Dior And I Breaks All The Rules", Dazed, last modified 2015, accessed May 1, 2018,[Text Trey Taylor, "Why Dior And I Breaks All The Rules", Dazed, last modified 2015, accessed May 1, 2018.

One of the aspects that is reflected in the element of change that is associated with the fashion industry, is the speed within which social changes are taking place. Fashion is an expressive art of the society and helps the people to define their aspirations and even tastes. With a fast-paced changing platform for t
