After watching the movie, “They Chose China”, I got interested on two related topics – The Red Scare and McCarthyism. Ideally, while the two events occurred in two different times and were both the basis of the Cold War. McCarthyism was much more intense compared to Red Scare because actions were initiated against all that were perceived to be Soviet Union affiliates. were the basis of the cold war as a campaign against the communist in the United states during the cold war between united states and the soviet union. Communist and socialist were referred to as the “red” because they were deemed sympathizers of US enemies. McCarthyism was particularly associated to Senator Joseph McCarthy and this campaign manifested through the 1940s and 1950s. according to McCarthy, the idea of McCarthyism was necessary to guard the US from external forces that sought to overthrow the government. Ideally, the advances made by Soviet Union and the growing inability of the USA to prevent the expansion of communism in the US was a major force behind the campaign. Many communists had infiltrated the US and McCarthy saw this as a threat to national unity.
