Given the advancements in technology, the ways of living have gone through a lot of changes. The traditional way of living is very different from the current way of life. Therefore, virtual connections have played a huge role in delaying of full adulthood responsibilities. The manner in which an adolescent makes a good transition to adulthood depends a lot on the influence that they get from the society, their parents and personal preferences. Virtual connections have led to the development of individuals who no longer worry about the physical environment around them but instead focus on their online friends. Dunbar argues out that a person might have one thousand friends on Facebook, but only a small percentage of that number can be willing to help in times of need. There is some level of friendship that "virtual connections cannot replace" (konnikova 238). Therefore, this means that adolescents are not living in a real hence, resulting in a delay in their ability to become responsible adults. They pay a lot of attention to an imaginary world forgetting the reality of getting a well-paying job and beginning a family. As well, virtual connections have delayed the development of adult responsibilities because it creates time acceleration and places dispersion. In the event whereby a person needs urgent help, they will not work hard to be able to help themselves because they can always make a phone call and get the help that they wanted. Thus, this has led to the development of a generation that does not know the meaning of working hard in life in order to be independent. In the absence of virtual networks, people were able to struggle their way out of difficult situations and, hence, learning on how to be responsible adults at a tender age. In the world of virtual connection, people realize that they need to be self-independent when it's already late. For example, a college student would be reluctant to take extra hours in a job to make money because they know that their parents are just a call away and will be able to help them with their financial needs. In addition, the dispersion of place through virtual networks have led to a delay in the ability of adolescents to become responsible adults.
