Reality television has been on the rise in the past few years. These shows have easily found a niche within the television industry as most have a specific target audience. Some shows are about fashion, talent, lottery awards, gender empowerment and even lives of some celebrities or the wealthy individuals. Basically, the actors try to maintain a casual involvement and make their actions look real, but are it as real as the name suggests? Most of the things reality shows airs are a reflection of our society, all with human conditions and sometimes true stories. Reality TV shows profile people’s lives or guests with problems and how they overcome them. Some shows such as ‘The Rich kids of Beverly hills’, ‘Keeping up with the Kadarshians’ or the Real Husbands of Hollywood profile lives of celebrities in America. To an extent most of these shows look scripted so as to appeal to specific audiences, especially the young generation.
From a social constructionist lens, reality is what we experience on a gradual basis, with which we have the responsibility to shape rather than receiving an already elaborate and fabricated transmission from a certain authority. This theory gives us a lee way on how reality works; it’s something we are responsible of, learning and interacting with others, without being guided through by any predetermined scripts CITATION Bar12 \l 1033 (Baran, 2012).
