I have read through your paper, and I am particularly impressed by the arguments you advance. The powerful members of society indeed control mass media. Media is an essential tool that shapes society and the ideologies that define its values and beliefs. Therefore, as the arguments from Adorno and Horkheimer state, it is vital to have limitations on the power that media is bestowed with. There is a need to have comprehensive measures that prevent overreach or too much power with external control.
On the other hand, Chomsky’s ad McChesney’s perspective regarding the news media is also radical and mandates the entire sector reform. Similar to Adorno and Horkheimer, they also note the high authority of the media and the dangers it has to democracy, especially the powerless people in the society. In this regard, I agree that controlling the power of media is vital because most aspects affecting people’s lives are controlled through the media. As you argue, the mass media was not intended to be purely controlled by the elite members of the society. The initial idealization of the press was to advance democracy and ensure that there is equitable access to news and other relevant components.
Therefore, the democratization of society can be achieved through sharing information and curating policies that limit elite control of media. In this regard, social media and other means of communication are redistributing power.
