The abundance of discrimination due to various factors such as race or ethnicity is quite alarming. Due to this, racial issues have been chiefly the center topic for debates even before. With the diverse perspective within this subject, people have been providing subjective and objective arguments that address it negatively and positively. Having the majority of issues surrounding the Black and White cases, it is also essential to take note of the Asian Americans who are being held captive in a racial triangulation.
Asian Americans in Racial Triangulation
Kim (1999) first disclosed the two approaches provided towards race which were (1) racial category, where people of the same characteristics and traits are categorized as one, and (2) racial hierarchy, which implies the dominance of a race and how there is an order or ranking between all races. She also explained that despite these two approaches, the idea of going beyond colors is unfulfilled; that is why she emphasized racial triangulation. Racial triangulation concerns three subjects: Whites, Blacks, and Asian Americans. This concept refers to the idea where two things are done simultaneously, which are (1) White people value Asian Americans and Black people in the form of domination because of their cultural grounds, and (2) White people also perceives Asian Americans as foreign groups and argues that their culture is different which leads for them to be excluded. With this idea, the shortcomings of the two approaches can be addressed as racial triangulation goes beyond Black and White because of the interrelation of the Asian American Dimension. Addressing the challenges faced by Asian Americans to White racial power constitutes the idea that not only Black people are being dominated by Whites.
