Through hard work, anything can be achieved
Hard work is the key to success, is a slogan used to encourage people to become diligent in anything they do. I believe that one can achieve anything through hard work and dedication. This is a philosophy I have come to learn through experience. I have come to believe that success is about personal efforts, not luck.
I grew up in a middle-class family, we were not poor, my parents provided the best for all of us, but for some reasons, I found myself in trouble in school and at home. I was not heading on the right path. When growing up, I didn't think much about my future career, all I always dreamt of was, success.
In one of the open school days, the guest speaker was a young man whom nobody knew, but after introducing himself as Ian Thorpe, one of the youngest swimmers to win a world championship (Donoghue and Tranter 13), I was curious to listen to what he had to say. His story inspired me because I had always taken everything for granted while other people like Ian struggled with chorine allergy to compete hard and win international honors in swimming (Cosh, Shona and Tully 35).
I didn't take any keen interest in swimming; I loved swimming simply because swimmer had more privileges than other athletes. If my friends did not encourage to join their team, I would not have been a successful swimmer today.
I recall Ian explaining how he never had much interest in swimming. His parents encouraged him to overcome his allergy by swimming with his head out of the water to avoid allergic reactions. Ian took advantage of everything he had to become the best swimmer. Despi...
