Comas is one of Lima's districts located in the northern part of the country, approximately eleven kilometers from the city center. It is one of the poorest districts and the most densely populated regions of Peru, with more than 10,000 people living on one square kilometer. The population growth in Comas resulted from organized invasions that were led by immigrants during the 1970s.
I believe that slum growth can be largely attributed to the failure of governments to offer services to the citizens. Hence, governments have critical role in slums development. From Dave’s book, it is evident that policies such as water rationing, lack of provision of social amenities like sanitation, roads, affordable housing result in many people living in shanty shelters. Thus, the government needs to implement programs that ensure better housing, rent control, better roads, hospitals, schools, among other social amenities and infrastructures in slum settlements, to upgrade the living...
