Neo-Confucianism refers to the revival of the classical Chinese teachings, which took place during the reign of the Song dynasty (960-1279). Neo-Confucianism is characteristic of the revived ideology embraced by Hu Yuan, emphasizing on the threefold conception of the Way, whereby the classical teachings would build on the aspects of substance, function, and literary expression.
